"Follow me and I will make you
fishers of men."
|
|
It is recorded twice in New Testament scripture that Jesus
Christ was preaching, "The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good
news!" He came upon two
fishermen Simon and Andrew, who he called to be his disciples by saying,
"Come, follow me, and I will make you fishers of men."

|
In this short phrase Jesus Christ revealed his heart and
his vision. Jesus had come to give
his life to pay for the wrong we do. This act would assure that those who trust
in Him and his sacrifice will live forever with him. Jesus referred to this as the “good
news”. He Taught that anyone that would accept this “good news” would forever be part of
his kingdom and would have the "right to
be called a son of God"

Jesus calls us, first into his kingdom through believing the
good news, then he calls us to bring others along with us into His kingdom. To
his Disciples Jesus says “follow me and I will make you fishers of men.” As
Jesus followers we are seeking to introduce others to him and the amazing life he
offers.

The life of an individual that has believed the good news
is a new life because of the new relationship. In this life one learns to trust
Christ’s love more each day. Jesus
has promised many things for members of his kingdom - for the here-and-now as
well as the here-after. Those of us who have put our trust in his love can
verify that he makes good on his promises. He is not only a
very loving God and Savior, he is faithful to his word.

In Scripture there are so many times when Jesus,
his disciples,
and others reiterate this good news. See Section 3 - God's
Call to The City's Gate of Introduction to The City's Gate for more information about the "good
news."
