V. Steps to becoming a member

A. Introduction to The City’s Gate

We make this the first step so that everyone can know exactly what is required and expected.  We have nothing to hide and you don’t want any surprises.  So, we are “up front” about what makes us “tick” and what scripture teaches regarding the Church.

You can receive this Introduction to The City's Gate by attending the class (see the pastor, or elders) or by reading through this hypertext booklet and discussing it with elders, in the next step.

B. Interview

After completing Introduction to The City’s Gate, at least two of the elders will meet with you and ask you to share the story of your spiritual journey.  They will want to know that you do understand what each of the vows of membership means.

C. Membership Vows

Vows of membership are taken before the Session, the group of elders elected by the congregation to govern the church.  It is the Session of elders that receives members into the church. And, as a member, the elders will meet with you several times a year to assure our accountability to you and your accountability to the church.

D. Presentation to the Congregation

In effect, this is simply letting the church know that we have reason to be glad.  It’s  like saying, “Here are some new members of our family.”
